They were so different, yet Cain saw the intelligence in Rougaru's eyes every time they had an encounter. He knew the stallion was cunning, and yet he had proven he was strong as well. Cain could respect that in an opponent. He didn't think of Rougaru as an enemy. If anything, he felt the Atlantis stallion kept him alert and on his toes, though he hated to see any member of his herd get taken like that. Chelle was special, and he wanted her back more than anything. What did he have to bargain with? Nothing, really. But that didn't mean he couldn't think of something. A stallion like Rougaru craved more, always something more. So though his pockets felt empty as he trudged up onto the wet sands of Paradise, Cain knew he wasn't exactly on a lost cause. He was here for Chelle, and even if he left with the island stallion's rejection, at least she would know he came here because he was thinking of her.

He couldn't help but wonder if taking Chelle was payback for him taking Melinoe. It was just a wild guess and he could be completely off, but Rougaru didn't seem the type to randomly take a mare. It wasn't like his herd was desperate for members. Even from the shore line, Cain took a whiff of the air and knew his herd was filled with fertile mares. Rougaru had an agenda and he needed to find out more.

He knew it wouldn't take long for the dark stallion to hear his call. He'd probably want to get here before Chelle in case she tried to escape with him or something. Cain wouldn't have been able to tell her no, but he was satisfied to get to have a chat with the herd stallion. It was better this way, more honorable.

The stallion was already sure of himself as he walked out to greet Cain, a grin across his lips as bobbed his head. He almost looked civil in this light. Probably cause he knew he had something over Cain. His voice was filled with sarcasm but the Vanner stallion couldn't help but smile a little despite it. "Rougaru." He greeted in return, even dipping his head politely. The stallion was quick to get to the point, asking if he was here to bargain for Chelle. Not one to beat around the bush himself, Cain nodded his head in confirmation. His eyes gave nothing away as he met the other stallion's gaze, curious as to where this conversation would go. He surprised Cain a little by offering to let him go first, but the draft male only blinked before he took a breath and spoke.

"I won't trade out horses like trinkets so I know that takes away most of the appeal. I also won't stoop to steal another's freedom as leverage to offer back to you. The present is then finalized, so that only leaves the future to bargain with." He paused a moment to let the other think on that before he continued, choosing his words carefully. "We are both self made leaders who have stayed and protected our lands against all intruders. There's been a lot of trading hands amongst the islands, but the Desert and Paradise have remained stable. We have built up strong herds and created families. From these families, stronger bonds can be created. Allies are good to have these days and you have proven yourself. Believe it or not, you have earned my respect, Rougaru." Cain searched the stallion's gaze as he said the last words, wondering if they would surprise the other.
