News 08.08.2021
Change was long overdue in Spirane. Now that I have learned who is still an active presence within the pack, the ranks have been updated. As I once took time away from the pack, so too now shall Kalseru. Know that she is still second in command of the pack, as is reflected in her rank. Once you are familiar with the new ranking system, if you would like to change positions or move up in the ranks you need only ask. Let this be a time of new life in Spirane, and a promise of great things to come!

When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.

This interaction grows more intriguing by the minute. Ashitaka tilts his head to one side. Straining his ears to catch the hushed tones falling from his half-sister's mouth. She’s toying with the mountain queen now. Come on? Seriously? Are you determined to die tonight? Ashitaka feels his heart starting to rip in two. Oh Hietala, you could have been so much more than this. Why did you allow yourself to fall so far?

The skin across his shoulders sags. Carrying the weight of the world on his back like this was starting to take a heavy toll on his frame. His legs are shaking from weeks of running from dusk until dawn. He visibly flinches when the ice queen shots him a look. He knows very well that Hietala can’t focus on him standing at this distance. After all that she’s put him through, how can she still call him her little brother.

Gentle green eyes fly open, clearly in visible shock to Nymeria’s offer. Yes! A mountain sanctuary. Away from my crazy family? Oh yes! He dips his head. “I would like that very much,” he smiles in acceptance to Nymeria’s terms. He stretches his face and neck towards that lovely male, with the soot grey fur, and the kindest eyes he had ever seen in any wolf’s head. He lifts a single paw until he pauses mid stride. Oh, darn, he was forgetting something.

“Thank you, Nymeria,” there is now a lightness to his voice as it sails through the open air like rays of moonlight. “Your compassion and honour, in my humble opinion, should precede you and your family.” He turns his attention back to his sister for the last time tonight. And maybe this will be the last time he will ever see her. She's broken, both inside and outside. It’s a deeply saddening and pitiful last memory to etch into his mind forever. However, he must make his own paths forward now. If Spirane was offering him a home, he would rip out a piece of his heart and chuck it to the ground. If this was now his home, he will guard this land and all those within, to the death if that was required to keep this wonderful family safe.

Ashitaka knew that Heitala would never freely offer the answers to the queen's questions. He reminds himself that, as from now, Nymeria was his alpha now. Surely, that meant he now had a duty to answer where other’s hold their tongues?

“Mach- Machaira?” Wobbly on his paws, Ashitaka stands as he divulges what little information he has. He’s a little uncertain how to pronounce the name, but he makes another attempt. “Her name was Machiara, she came to our lands many, many, moons ago. The huntress was six winters old when she met one of our ancestors, Bailey.” There was no emotion in his voice, as far as he was concerned he was recanting pack legend. Like most stories, it had been elaborated upon and embellished overtime. He couldn’t pick apart fact from fiction anymore. Therefore he would share the tales as his mother, Bracken Wing would have done for them when he was a young baby.

“She couldn’t speak, so it was very difficult to learn anything about her or where she came from. She was an,” he pauses trying to find the right words to describe a wolf he had never met in the flesh, “a remarkable individual. He’s pretty sure he just heard Hietala spit something out, but he ignores her as he continues. “Machiara quickly rose through the ranks in the most northern corner of our family’s ancestral homes. She was strong, some say she was brutally harsh, even punitive at times, but the pack thrived with her at their lead.”

“It wasn’t until Machiara had her own children, who were born being able to talk, that the rest of us began to learn more about the silent guardian.” Sadness flashes deep within his green eyes. There was nothing more magical than a bond between mother and pup. He prays every minute that his own mother is alive somewhere. “They told us that their family had come from a mountain called Solevion, that Machiara’s parents had been called Thunderbone and Boneclaw.”

Ashitaka looks down at the ground beneath his front paws. He can feel the rumbling coming from his sister's chest. He hopes that he has remembered enough of the details correctly. Hietala is getting angry again, and he doesn’t want him or Nymeria to deal with another bite tonight. Huffing, he speak in a language that his older sister had never bothered to learn;

“Haritsumeta yumi no furueru tsuru yo, Tsuki no hikari ni zawameku omae no kokoro, Togisumasareta yaiba no utsukushii, Sono kissaki ni yoku nita sonata no yokogao, Kanashimi to ikari ni hisomu, Makoto no kokoro wo shiru wa mori no sei, Mononoke-tachi dake mononoke-tachi dake.” It’s a simple song, but it’s one that he had heard almost every night. He smiles proudly, pleased to demonstrate just one aspect of the versatility that he had within him. Yes, he would be a great asset to Spirane.
