there are branches in my bones

Vihar delighted in the sharp squeal she brought out of Annubis with her attack. It fueled her frenzy, and continued to ring in her ears after they disengaged. She had expected him to lose his temper with her at first, and thought it might have been a challenge to pull him back to her with temptation after shoving him so aggressively away, both metaphorically and literally.

It seemed she would not have much of a challenge after all. As he spun to face her, she saw the devilish grin on his face, parted by the tongue as it gave a hungry swipe of his dark lips. Her attack had apparently not deterred him at all. One ear twisted thoughtfully back; she had been looking forward to the game of reeling him back in after pissing him off, but that was evidently not a necessary effort. It wasn’t the reason she had picked a fight, just a bonus, but even so. He crept closer like a cat on the hunt, and she tossed her head in defiance, letting out a crystalline laugh. Her blood was still rushing with the excitement of their brief combat. She snapped her tail at her sides, dancing in place as though she couldn’t bear to remain still.

Are you sure you’re ready for that game? he taunted, and she flicked her ears back briefly and gave him a harsh squeal. “Like I would have challenged if I wasn’t ready,” she scoffed, her tone both playful and venomous. She was still simmering with energy beneath the surface, her skin prickling with sensitivity. Her eyes rolled over the contours of his body, hungry with both fury and hormones. His taste lingered in her mouth, metallic and sharp. Had she drawn blood? Heat flushed her face at the thought. She wanted more, she needed more. Vihar reached out once again with her teeth, pressing them towards Annubis’s throat, but in a far less violent gesture this time. She didn’t want to make this easy for him, but she also wasn’t ready to try and kill him just yet.

“And what makes you think I’m so innocent?” she asked, circling him with her chiseled head held proudly aloft. Her charcoal tail snapped at her flanks, but when it wasn’t whistling harshly through the air, it was flagged high above her hindquarters. She was somewhat bluffing — following her instincts rather than knowing from experience what kind of game she was playing now. But she put on a brave face, despite the slight twist of anxiety in her gut. Vihar had never backed down from any kind of challenge, and she wasn’t going to start now.
