It is in the quiet moonlight that the pale mare steps onto the shore of the Crossing. Her nearly white figure illuminated in the full moon’s grasp. Her eyes glisten, and a smile curls her pink lips as she breaths in the familiar scents she had once called home. I wonder if anyone still remains? she thinks to herself, recalling the leaders that had once ruled the territories of the islands. One of those leaders included her father. A long forgotten stallion, amongst the many of his time.


Curious, yet wary, Mae leaves the lapping waves along the shoreline and ventures further inland. She moves much like a deer. Careful but brave as she wanderings into the new territory. Nothing looks familiar to her, and she wonders if it is the time that has passed to make it unrecognizable. But it is her blunder into a territory she dare not tread before that was the true culprit. Mae had known better in her younger days not to come to the Commons. But her time spent on the mainland had made her forget just which place belonged to that name.


Unaware of the danger she placed herself in, Mae pauses in the open field. The winter grasses turned silver from the luna that hung heavy in the sky, making the mare seem to glow. Her long wavy mane hung on both sides of her neck, draping down over her shoulders until she lowered her head to graze. While her tail had drug the ground behind her, now flicking idly at her sides, though there was no bugs in the colder winter days.
