I should remember what Charlie looks like as during my first ever Orderly Sergeant which, was at Richmond, coincided with the OC's parade and held on the old grass parade ground. The flag pole was one of the yard arm type so the RAAF Ensign travelled out and up. During the raising I lost control of one of the ropes and the Ensign swung out towards Charlies hat, I pulled quickly on the other rope and just managed to knock his hat off instead of wrapping his face in it. Tony Martin, as some will remember as a top man and WOD, chastised me severely and said very harshly "Sgt - you will never do another O/S on this base as long as I am HQRTS WOD of this Formation." I shut up and didn't dare say Thanks Tony. Replies:
