...attention other News Media...

Trump was probably preoccupied kiting checks to banks in 75 so wasn't watching the news, else he wouldn't have pulled our troops out AMA from his generals.

The bloodbath you allude to was on the minds of everyone who paid attention back when we were much younger as Trump did his spur of the moment decision with no thought of unintended consequences. Very sad.

Remember when our Viet helpers took to boats and sailed at great risk to Manila where they stayed until we brought our friends here?

I was reporting news on their arrival in the late 70s and 80s, same time as Castro flooded the US when he emptied out his prisons in Cuba. Closest Cubans were at Ft Chafee in Ark.

The Viet boat people also came to Kansas...Wichita in particular was seen by the migrants as a good, welcoming place to resettle. They did, flooding pubschools there with non english speakers, some of whom were adults passing themselves off as teenagers. Viets youll remember were pretty hairless and small, fitting right in.

I did a story once abt black high school kids, jealous, falsely claiming the Feds were funding the new viet arrivals. But fact is, they were labeled quickly by Wichita industry people as good workers, picked up skills quickly, learned English thanks to the Pubschools and the Catholic Charities and they landed those high paying jobs at Boeing. Jeez, I loved TV field reporting in those days... where ya could get out and practice real journalism, not just chasing the cops around from one ghetto murder to another! Best fun I ever had in the early 80s. KSN had money for inestigative trips and extra days off to gather and researh, a great photographer staff capable of winning photo press awards with their craftsmanship.

Sadly it al went to hell, and then cable squeezed local TV with advertising competition, and lots of us reporters got laid off. I had a lot of experience so I worked the desk awhile, and then was ops mgr, scheduling satellite shots, buying camera and weather gear. Fleet management. Travel arrangements and computer work. KSN went from a staff of 85, and cut in HALF when Satellite News Channel went under and we'd been covering parts of 5 states, deep into Nebraska. I dont think any KC station ever had 85 in the news department.

Radio news by 85 had pretty much been gutted by then, but for a few talk radio stations in larger markets. BZ, KCMO and 61 Country held out. WHB had just two of us, ripping and reading morning and afternoon drive, but that wasn't journalism, that was just voice work. I jumped to TV not long afterwards from doign the same thing at KKRD. It was in the basement of KARD TV3 at 8th & Main. 61 Country was in a new bldg under the Signal Hill tower next to their highly visible property at 31st & SWT. Remember Charles Gray? And Sky Spy? Charlie had a lock on KC police and fire like overnight reporter Fred Huddelston did at KFH in Wichita.
