Oh no, oh fuck, oh shit, the colt’s mind is ringing. His thoughts are racing-- what was he going to do, trying to have a conversation with a pretty girl? How was he meant to have a conversation like this? He’d started with the weather. Who starts with the weather? Frey feels stupid almost instantly. Sheepish. That combined with the voice crack… what is she going to think?
At least she had the grace not to mention the voice crack, when she started speaking. Her expression, too, seemed to shift as she assessed Frey. His ears flickered forward. Winter is best, and the barely-a-man’s lip quirked up into a half smile. “No way, it’s finally warm out!” The grin dances in his tone, and reaches to his eyes as a glimmer in the spring sunlight. Shit, he was still talking about the weather.
Scared of me? Oh shit she had heard the voice crack. Frey’s eyes went wide with her question, his pulse once again going through the roof. Scared was the wrong word. Fuck he needed to think of something, and fast. “Not scared,” think of something, think of something, “just not used to talking to anyone new.” Okay, Frey has saved it. He wasn’t used to talking to girls who were new, but he wouldn’t split hairs on that one.
He steadies his breath, stretching his neck down to pull at the grass. Frey was kinesthetic, he needed something to do. It’s hard to know what to do. It’s hard to know how to act. “What’re you doing out here, today?” The sooty man asks, gaze curious on the filly’s face. She really was pretty… no, can’t think like that, gotta be polite. Right.
