Anath was soaking wet but exhausted. It had been many years since the champagne mare cursed these shores. Born here� born to the Islands. Raised on the Islands, though maybe not in the best way. She was the Islands, and the Islands were her. That didn�t make sense. It didn�t matter. In truth, Anath didn�t know how much longer she had left. The one thing the legend knew? She had to come back. She had to die here too.

In truth, there was no way of knowing how much time had passed. The Islands were full of ghosts, and she was one of them. This was the time of the year where the veil was thin, after all. It is with a fading pang, crossing the threshold of the Peak, that she hopes to see Black Heart Machine. If she thinks hard enough of the Teke mare, Anath can smell her on the wind. It happens on the bad days. Her stomach churns.

Though Anath was aged, she wasn�t infirm. Time hadn�t been kind to the general, but physically she felt okay. Scars littered her champagne pelt, and she was stiff in the mornings, but her body hadn�t failed her. Not yet. No, it was the mare�s mind that would lose orientation first. It was the mind that would go long before the body. She�d always been in the best shape, pushed herself the hardest and the furthest. At least Anath had that to rest on.

She rests. It�s at the base of the Peak, in the flat expanse of grasses. The swim had taken far more out of Anath than she had planned. She needed to catch her breath. One in, one out. Again. One in, one out. Right. It would be a while longer before she trudged up the Peak itself. For now, she would take her homecoming from down here.
