The emotion that rose in Bagheera too, was comforting. Disgust is something that they can share in, distaste in the injustice the child had seen. It was yet another act to seal in Bane’s mind that she really did belong here. She’d done well, the living legend decided. She’d done so incredibly well to bring Bagheera home with her, and it was her hope now that her shadowed friend would stay. The Peak built strong women from little birds, and stronger women from the strong women that joined them.

Bane listened to Hollis speak, and her heart caught in her throat. This poor, poor child… what happened? It wasn’t on the champagne mare to know. She would simply let the child come back into her own. Bane cannot ask. An intrusion, especially on a child this fragile? It would be the worst thing for her. Still, if anyone came for her? They would have hell to pay. To cross one amazon would be to cross all of them.

She tilted her head softly, nodding along with Oswin. There wasn’t much for Bane to add. The idea of chosen family, it’s one that runs strongly through the Peak. Chosen family is thicker than blood, and that’s something they all understand. That’s something they all live, and it’s for the best. The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb-- it’s life around here.

“We all keep each other safe,” it’s a quiet assurance, one that comes from Bane’s chest. If there was something she could promise, it was that. Safety. Safety in numbers. They’d all do as best they could, for each other.
