"membering back in the day

Obviously whoever plays spelling cop in here never worked in radio where its more acceptable to type fast and spell phonetically. Spelling doens't even count in TV unless it goes to the Chyron operator.

No, I was never comfortable at HB...started the very first day when Dolan told me stay in the jocks studio because he hadn't fired Combs yet. I thought Combes and Mead were both good sounds, and Dolan always acted like he was auditioning me. Took me a couple weeks to settle down and quit worrying about him. Nobody more surprised than me when he moved me to repl Mead with Jay;s morning gig, but Jay was really funny and had fun. Dolan always acted like he had to fart and so did RET, neither of whom I ever saw smiling. But I admit liking working with Phil SOO much better. Even so, WHB was no longer the Happyist Broadcasters because the SuperQ spelled the death knoll for AM radio. In a year, they were ALL gone. I grabbed an early lifeboat as soon as I could and even got a raise and the ND slot at my old small market station, which in a couple years also died off to the local FM.

People are always evaluating if it's it better to be an average fish in a big lake or a big fish in a small one.

But honestly, I realized KC isn't a major market no matter its ADI size, and I noticed the few really good ones who did move up never came back, Well except for KCMO's morning talker. Dunno why he did that except that BZ's staff turnover is so low because it's a safe place and he couldn't go over to the better station.

It wasn't long before I got out of radio which abandoned news. Handwriting was on the wall. Jim was right, they just move music, they have no commitment except to fill time between his commercials.

I'v said before, the most fun I ever had in radio was in American Forces Radio, at the time, the worlds biggest radio corporation, but they didn't jack with us so we always had fun. Maybe because the bosses with stars and stripes on their uniforms didn't know shit about radio so they left us alone! I only got called into the general's office once for a dressing down...and after I told him my disrespectful schtick was popular among the EM's, he let me go with just a reminder that we make a big impression with the native listeners in the host country.

See how easy it is to add new content to a post and not just retort with insults?
