The burning stars overhead in the dark violet sky took Jabari away for a brief moment. For just a second, he could feel the heat from his sire's body standing next to him, the familiar smell of the fire-licked stud hanging deftly in the humid post-rain air. He was back on Luthien, the tall, golden Prairie grasses licking at his knees. And he was staring at a familiar sky, feeling the full frontal weight of losing his dam. The nostalgia of such a tender moment shook Jabari - warm, salty tears gathered in his bottom eyelids and his heart stammered at a staccato pace as he felt the trauma of that time all over again.
It was the young mare's faint smile, that finally weakened the grip of old memories from his consciousness. He felt the tension in his muscles begin to loosen as he willed himself to focus on her, and to push the image of such a sad occasion back into the deep fog of his mind. Jabari had no idea what triggered such a cruel reminder in this moment - but he had some suspicions. He breathed a heavy sigh, expelling a long exhale from his pink nostrils before settling in again with his new spotted acquaintance. He felt like he owed her an apology - for what, not being present? He held his tongue and kept his gaze focused on the stars overhead.
One brown ear lobe flicked forward and back as he considered her question. "I'd like to think it's special." He said, his blue-eyed gaze dropping from the sky. "Are the nights on Atlantis not like this?"
