Diccon (Cicada x Khar'pern)

Rules

• The Vulcan Peak is where homeless mares come to live as a sisterhood. Stallions may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Warriors keep mainly to fighting, Thinkers keep mainly to raiding, and Politicians may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Codebreaker or Prime Minister for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Prime Minister maintains order within the Peak and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Peak works on the Rules page.

HEROES GET REMEMBERED

If Anath had known Macabre’s fate, it may have broken her heart. She would learn in time, as she learned most things. There had been so much loss here… to have the woman be another one of her ghosts? No. Not another one. In her mind’s eye, the legend still saw Macabre as she had when they’d first met, young and filled with fire. To know she was gone would make the old general feel her age in the worst way. For today, it would be too much.

Listening to Oswin speak of justice brings a rakish smile to Anath’s lips. Fighting for the greater good… it makes sense. The champagne mare would understand the gravity of the changes on the islands in time. Women could be tyrants too, and that was something Anath understood better than most. In her glory days, there were men that had viewed even her as such. Good looks different depending on who’s writing the definition, after all. “It’s a noble purpose,” there’s soft affirmation here. From where Anath stands, she can see much of herself in Oswin.

Anath is grateful to do more listening than speaking as the painted mare tells her story. Childhood trauma is something the champagne mare understands. The trauma that came from being forced to bring a child into this world, and the trauma of having that forced upon you when you don’t want it… Anath knows. She thinks of Legacy, knowing that her eldest daughter was no longer with them. There was a soft, sympathetic sigh in her chest as she regarded Oswin.

Hearing Heart’s name nearly brought the ragged champagne mare to her knees. Of all of the ghosts, it was Heart that meant the most. “Heart was my best friend,” it’s all Anath can do to keep her voice from breaking. Even now, after all this time, knowing her influence continued to live here… it’s too much, and it’s enough, all at the same time. An ache bloomed in her ribs, and from the tone of her voice, it’s not a stretch to know that she and Heart had been so much more than friends. Spending ten years side by side would do that to you, after all.

“Law can be hard. There are sixteen herds on the islands, not counting us and the bachelors. Trying to get them all to come to an agreement might be unreasonable.” The champagne mare paused for a moment. “But we never stop giving a voice to the silenced.” Her gaze flickered to Oswin once more, an attempt to read her expression. “There are different brands of justice, but I’ll support what feels right.”
