HEROES GET REMEMBERED

From her distance, Anath had misread the situation. She’d always been one to strike first and ask questions later, and sometimes that strategy fails her– moments like this one. Her green eyes went wind, then narrowed, an attempt to find purchase as her head began to spin. Daughter of Macabre, heart pounding in her chest, the dun mare took a large step to the side. Fallen Codebreaker– fallen? Macabre… Macabre was… no. Fallen. Fallen. The word echoed in her head, and Anath could feel her heart breaking once more. Shattering in her chest. No.

Macabre’s eldest daughter, Macabre’s youngest son. Anath can feel a wave of anguish as it crashes over her, taking a look at the pair. The champagne mare remembers when the woman had been carrying the bay crumpled before her in the sand. When she finally finds the words to speak, they’re soft. She lacks the ire of moments before, especially as the entire picture takes shape before her. “I am Anath, retired general of the Peak.” Her gaze flickered between Bacardi and Wasp, in awe for just a moment longer. “I knew your mother.”

Anath falters, emotion running high in her system. “From a distance, it looked like a dangerous situation. I’m sorry,” a rare apology from the ragged mare to the young, painted man. Time was of an essence when it came to the comings and goings in the Common, and she’d always act on her gut. “The Peak will always welcome your return.” Her words to Wasp are soft, but she is careful not to push any direction. “We should get you somewhere safe to get some rest.” Anath regards both Wasp and Bacardi as she speaks– though her intrusion into the situation had been brash, it had been with the best intentions. The Common being as it was, though, they’d be better off going elsewhere to speak.
