All the jungle is thine..[Osmanthus cont.]

Unfortunately for all living beings, the concept of peace is often short-lived and tenuous. The inky mare is not a stranger to the idea of peaceful times, yet she has never known a single moment of true tranquility. The poor girl - forced into womanhood at a tender young age - is more acutely aware of the posturing and antics associated with outright war and rebellion. In less than four short years she has found herself a weary old soul confined to a capable - yet exhausted - body. The silvery scars are the ever-present reminder of the life once lived and a warning upon the one she has recently found herself thrust within. He is wise to avoid the topic of her adornments. While the wounds have healed physically, the mental disparities that remain are the deepest of fissures.

His bitter words elicit a smirk upon her ebony lips. While she understands his displeasure at being woken - though more likely he has a distaste for being caught in a vulnerable position - she finds his general grumpy demeanor endearing. Emotions are difficult for Bagheera and she finds herself mildly confused by her unfounded fondness for the weary brute. Why feel anything at all for someone wallowing in dirt and loneliness? she muses to herself.

He speaks but then swiftly retracts his question as he chooses to rise from the unforgiving ground. Bright yellow eyes, cat-like as ever, memorize his movements as he puts himself back together. Normally she would have simply dissipated into the comfort of living shadows, yet she feels those of the deceased encroaching upon her battered mind one more. For once she chooses to remain within the realm of the living and effectively denies the arrival of her self-proclaimed ghosts.

The champagne stallion speaks again - the same thought echoed within different words. She pauses to contemplate her answer - should she offer truth or jest? The stoic woman is not one to display her thoughts publicly with much frequency. She remains in her shadowed alcove, not wanting to pressure the man by physically coming closer. Her intelligent and unreadable eyes snap to meet his gaze almost as if she wishes to find her answer within his own eyes. "I have nowhere pressing to be. Why are you here?" Ambiguous as is her nature with a dash of mild curiosity seeping into her bones, she will wait and see if he continues to tolerate their awkward rendezvous.
