Finch Sorrow; it was like a slow killing poison, worse than any snake bite or poisonous plant. It was a quicker death than this ache in her heart that she hadn’t found a remedy for. No matter how much she searched for Faolain, or cried for Rivaini, neither were coming back. It was like living the nightmare of her mother abandoning her, only this time she couldn’t wake from it. She couldn’t press herself into warm tawny hide and make it go away. It was a reality they were having to face, and she tried to keep a stoic face, knowing at least this wasn’t her first time. But it seemed, no matter what face she wore, he always knew. Finch was sure it was the reflection in her blue eyes, the way he could read every inch of her. Knowing how she felt before even she did sometimes. Hades was the only security in her life that she was sure of. The young mare was sure that the ocean would rise up and swallow Atlantis before he ever disappeared, or abandoned her. And, just like always, it seemed the young stallion knew her thoughts. His scent wafted to her on the warm breeze, and she turned her face away from the sea to watch him draw near. As the young stallion offered his muzzle to her, Finch perked her ears farther forward in surprise to the gift he was giving her. It was a notion she had seen between the previous rulers, but not once had he ever done such a thing. She could feel her cheeks heat with a blush, glad that her coloring helped to hide it as a strange girlish feeling caused butterflies to stir in her stomach. “You always seem to know how to make me smile.” she murmured with a smile. But rather than taking his gift, Finch turned and dropped her head so that he could put it in her thick mane just behind her ear. |
