The Doxer "Lie La Lie"

"The Boxer" is a song recorded from our fifth studio album, Bridge over Troubled Water (1970). Produced by the duo and Roy Halee, it was released as a standalone single on March 21, 1969, but included on the album nine months later. Written by Paul, the lyrics are largely autobiographical and partially inspired by the Bible, and were written during a time when Simon felt he was being unfairly criticized. The song's lyrics discuss poverty and loneliness. Rolling Stone ranked the song No. 106 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Sometimes Paul added this verse and sometimes not:

Now the years are rolling by me—
They are rockin' evenly.
I am older than I once was,
And younger than I'll be.
That's not unusual;
No, it isn't strange:
After changes upon changes
We are more or less the same;
After changes we are more or less the same.
