In the darkness of night

Olavi

It was no surprise that his mother’s bad attitude had rubbed off on him at such a young age. He truly knew no one else of the herd, but her so what other influences did he have? He watched his father in the distance sometimes, but he never drew close enough to cause a stir in his dam. Stella didn’t really like him wondering off. She didn’t really like anything it seems. The colt sighs as he watches his dam drifting off to sleep. He has tried many times to sneak away which is why his mother was no so tired. She always caught him somehow and when he did manage to go off on his lonesome, she always found him shortly after. It was quite the drag. How could he make any friends or learn anyone’s name? They were a herd so they were all supposed to be family right?

Mother assured him his father’s kind face was all a joke. He was not so kind and his loving Queen was not so loving. They were all playing make believe and if he got to close he would begin to believe it too. The colt often asks how it was he came to be if she hated father so much. Mother would never answer. ”No!” Stella yells as he takes one step away from her. Olavi stomps his hoof with an eye roll. Why was she like this? The words they would exchange to each other were anything, but loving so why did he continue to stick by her side? Why did she even keep him here? The ebony colt waits for some time until his mother is finally asleep. He pokes her a few times to make sure before attempting an escape into the jungle. He knew the territory well enough to know where he was going, but he has never done it alone. Not like that would stop him!

Olavi avoids the others like the plague as he races through bushes, around trees, and over flowers. He had no interest in them at the moment. Only the freedom of running by himself made him happy. He runs and run and runs until he was out of breath. His lungs work to catch up as he leans against the trunk of a strong tree nearby. The colt didn’t realize that he had actually ran far enough to be outside of his home territory until the different scents filled the air. He did not know these horses so worry soon fills his gut. It might be time to sneak back to his mother before she wakes and sees him missing. Small ears stand in attention as he hear another close by. Olavi quickly finds a place to hide as he spies the golden girl reaching the edge of the Shore’s invisible line.

He recognizes her from his herd, but he has no idea who she was. You would think he would want to inquire these things, but instead he just wants to sneak away. IF he met anyone mother would defiantly find out. Not to mention he didn’t want to get sucked into their ‘happiness’ scheme. The colt begins to slip away, back into the safety of the shore, but snap. He freezes with his leg lifting off the broken stick. Shit. His ears flicker as the nearby girl whispers. Olavi cusses some more in his head as he slowly lowers his hoof back to the ground. He tries to tip toe away, but she speaks again. The poor girl’s constant questions were the only thing that drew him out of hiding. The colt sighs deeply and reveals himself from behind the trees. ”What?” He asks rather rudely.  He didn’t answer any of her questions, but the look on his face gave the impression that she was the one bothering him.
