live fast die young

Cold. It seemed that all Scarlet knew lately was the cold. That was okay, though… it could be worse. Though cold and lonely, she could be… um, she could be miserable? Her spirits were honestly in okay shape. Winter would be over soon, and things could change. Things could get better, Scarlet hoped. Still, her head hung low, and she was tired. Every step seemed to be a fight, but at least she was on dry land now.

At once, Scarlet is keenly aware that she’s not alone anymore. Someone else is here, a man. As he comes into focus she realizes that he’s tall and finely built, refined looking. Blacker than the night that would soon stretch around them. Her eyes go wide, whites flickering on the edges. She’s sheepish, uncomfortable… awkward. Awkward, and she can feel his gaze upon her. Shoot, it seemed that finding somewhere to hide out and sleep unnoticed wasn’t an option any longer. In her chest, Scarlet’s pulse picked up. Her ears flickered. She’s anxious, nervous.

He’s close now. Too close, but she doesn’t fight it. Scarlet lacks the energy to fight him off, and that fluttering anxiety in her system doesn’t settle down. The mare doesn’t dance away from him, instead looking warily to the wordless man by her side. “I was going to find somewhere to rest in the trees, where there’s less wind,” there’s discomfort clear in her voice. Social situations were mostly foreign to Scarlet, but she offers a weak smile in his direction. Still, she feels every bit the ugly duckling standing beside the stately, dark creature.
