Re(2): A very long time ago

Talk about a 'fun read'... thanks. Yours was a 'good read' and very interesting.

Made me wonder how much as to do with the economy or conditions of war. We're pretty hedonistic because we had it easy all our lives including our childhoods.

Our parents did child labor during the Depression, especially in farm country and before automation cut work chores down to twenty minutes a day.

The Ukrainians are hearty people because their lives are 50 years behind us, so they have that heartiness on their faces and their ability to endure horrible war and still survive unless they're blown up or shot.

Women before us and in harder countries are, in my mind, unattractive--downright ugly but they have character. We have all this idle time to make ourselves pretty and life is so easy, to be buff we have to do artificial work, we call 'exercise'.

I agree with your descriptions of lazy, strong, etc, but I'm addressing the WHY... and that seems to tell me that human generations are able to rise to meet the challenges it takes to survive and a lot of it must have to do with what conditions existed when they're in their youthful, formative years.

Is there a 'lazy' generation among large subsets of Americans who have it easy just now...but not others who don't? We're not all kicking back! But I must admit, as the child of a middle class family, I've never missed a meal, but I couldn't stand myself unless I was supporting myself and working.

My observation is the X's and Y's don't seem to mind underachieving!

Whaddya think?
