Re(4): Deep Thoughts By Angry American

I agree with what you said about the marketplace and wages, especially outfits that play crappy.

When I had left broadcasting and stayed in KC and was looking for IT work that paid what broadcasting paid me, I finally got contract work which opened all the doors. But I did learn watching the want ads which outfits were always looking for IT help. especially emergency people because their turnover was so bad. Ya learned whhich major corporations are shit, like always-laying off Sprint, and people quitting Russell Stover, high turnover Ferrellgas, and only hiring new kids Cerner. Even Farmland Industries. They actually gave an IT test to make sure you really had the programming skills you put on your resume.

At least in IT tho, it didnt take long to get a gig because demand is high. Many did learn to pay IT people very well because computer people are horrible at documentation so when you lose knowledgeable people, you lose their proprietary know how too and computers take a lot of that.

I hear lots of companies just can't get help. I think when you said it was hard during Covid to get help, it was because Uncle Sugar paid people who were laid off because of it. I think that's over now.

I keep saying tho, look at your industry and if you see broadcasting is automating and consolidating and salaries have fallen, you're in a mature industry and only senior, fully skilled people will survive except for the board ops who can be taught their jobs in a month, those are entry level people, gypsies who sign short term apartment complex leases!

Ya can't raise a family on that except in health care where your spouse can point to a hospital and say "Im gonna work there!" and in a few days she's working and with a hiring bonus besides!

Ya lose your shorts if you have to pay a realtor 6 percent when you buy a new house every 3-5 years in another market. Yours is young man's work! Jeez it was fun til you guys get pregnant and need money and stability! That happened to us and after that it was about money and stability.
