Re(3): Format Changes

I think you're giving my program directors way to much credit, man. My national PD in New York makes all of the decisions.

"New" 102.7 in New York played just 311 unique titles last week. The Buzz (or Alt, or whatever they're called this week) played 299. Audacy seems to have this obsession with 300 song libraries. Their corporate PDs have figured that this is the optimal number and the optimal turnover for listener satisfaction.

Now, you and I both know that it isn't. That rotations like this where a 40 year old tune plays 5-7 times a week put radio in the crapper. But like a dying animal they are desperately clinging to anything that even barely keeps their head above water.

Cumulus corporate seems to be a little more forgiving. 105.1 the X played 516 unique songs, KCFX 653 (they did do a special Indie 500 weekend), KCMO-FM 599. So their optimal library is 500-600 songs.

It's all in the corporate philosophy: find the least offensive thing, hammer it into the ground, rinse, repeat.
