Re(4): OMG gas prices

They have new procedures now with this rubber thing you wear at night that moves your teeth around as you sleep, less costly than braces and obviously less ugly.

I'd say theres lots of dentists in a big city like KC, and one of their ad phrases uses the word "Smiles" that has a nice cosmetic ring to it. Like any business, some are in it for the money and some are in it for the profession as well as the money.

Insurance for dental work is piss poor; they pay for cleanings and not much else. Crowns are still a thousand bucks, and lots of em will do expensive and uncomfortable root canals so routinely as Ear Nose and Throat doctors prescribing tubes in kids like they did tonsilectomies when I was a kid.

Guess it's easy money for them. I'd suggest finding somebody in your part of town thats been there for awhile, and the dentists in that office don't turn over too much over money, and the less corporate, the better. And get a dentist that isn't fresh out of dental school.

I've read dentistry isn't as well regulated as doctors linked up with hospital privileges. Once I also read in Mo, there was a little price fixing going on with the state's dental assn when some wanted to cut the rates on crowns lower than the 'customary charge' and the group had a fit over that. That woulda made a great TV news story.

The old joke is that surgeons wear masks, not for germ protection, but rather so you won't recognize them when you get their bill of charges. grin
