When the sooty bay stallion breached the border of the Ridge, Jabari was seaside, dozing off on the warm sunny boulder overlooking the surf below. His thoughts drifted to Reef, the curious mare he'd met along the beach below, to Charybdis, the fearless though peculiar leader who seemed determined to hold down the territory until her friends who'd abandoned it returned. Chary confused him greatly, but her overall kind demeanor is what kept him here. He wanted to help her.
It was the squeals and grunts of battle that woke him, his blue eyes blinking in rapid succession as he stumbled to his feet. His pink nostrils tested the air and he could smell him - the Lagoon - and his heart began to race. The painted stallion moved quickly against the varied terrain to find them. But by the time he spotted the Desert-bred brute and Chary herself, it was all over. The mare moved away in defeat.
Jabari's heart sunk.
The foreign stallion set his eyes on him and Jabari felt a chill run down the length of his spine. He gulped - swallowing hard against a lump in his throat as he realized his time in the Ridge was coming to an abrupt end. The Lagoon was the last place he wanted to be ... after his time there under Cullen's rule, he vowed he would never return. But alas.
Jabari nickered to a winded Chary, sympathy hanging in his wallowing eyes even though an angry fire burned in his gut. He should have been here. He should have been patrolling. It should have been him to lock legs in battle against this stallion, not her. He'd failed her. "I'm sorry." He croaked, before stiffening in his posture.
Jabari looked to the stallion now, his gaze narrowing on him and his expression stony, before trudging off toward the sea.
