Plebes were not allowed to have radios, but all other classes could have them. However, most plebes found some way around that. My roommates and I kept our radio in our strongbox. When we wanted to listen, the radio was turned on and the strong box lid positioned so that a simple slap on the side of the strong box would cause the lid to fall and shut off the radio. We used that technique more than once when a “firstie” or officer or the watch entered our room.
