Her wide gaze lingered on the depths of the forest as she calmed down, unsure of what would emerge from those verdant depths. She had come to the Crossing a few weeks ago in the hopes of finding her own home, but she had spent most of her time simply observing. The little tobiano watched representatives of the Peak and Lagoon stride back and forth, both of them filled with some mysterious purpose that she could not quite figure out. She made sure to hide when she caught the scent of the men to the South, her father's warnings always forefront in her mind.

Most of the other residents were engaged in their own business. Herd stallions were busy gathering mares and mares busy garnering someone's attention. It was fascinating, if only because Shiloh had only ever witnessed the end result of such courting and never the process of flirtation itself. It intimidated her more than she had expected as there wasn't exactly anyone to flirt with when the whole island belonged to your family. The night before she had promised herself that today would be different. Today she would try her hand at that mysterious game of give and take and see what came of it.

She just hadn't expected for her turn to come so soon.

She jumped at the sound of a voice behind her and turned quickly to face the speaker with her seafoam eyes wide with surprise. The tenor of the stranger's voice had given her an inkling that he was large, but it had not prepared her for the rippling wall of muscle that met her gaze. Beneath the weight of his stare, she felt her cheeks grow hot but forced herself to stand up straight and to meet his curiosity with her own.

"Good morning," she murmured in response, her gaze following the tilt of his hindleg and reading the communication for what it was. She hadn't felt particularly threatened by him so far (his kind greeting kind of paled in comparison to being chased the moment she woke), but it was good to know that he had no intentions of chasing her himself.

She chuckled awkwardly at his question and shook her head no, only to pause and cast another confused glance behind her. "No... or at least I don't think so." Her lips twisted into a frown for a moment, but she turned back to him and attempted to try and explain. "I think I was just sleeping in the way of someone else's fight." She flicked the length of her tail and laughed softly. "At least I don't think I snore loudly enough to incite anyone's wrath."

She gestured to him a moment later, a smile settling onto her lips. "What about you? Looks like maybe you've been doing your own bit of chasing recently." Her words were not unkind and she extended her muzzle as if to point out the marks of a recent battle on his skin. Shiloh had never felt a particular desire to participate in the brawling her siblings enjoyed, but she had seen the aftermath on her father's body often enough to recognize the signs for what they were.
