You can play the wolf, but you can’t escape the woods

Never mind
Turn back time
You'll be fine
I will get left behind

How she manages to hide herself in such an open terrain as the Desert, Romulus does not understand, but he hears her before he sees her. The voice is not the same livid scream as it had been in the Commons, but it is undoubtedly the star-spattered woman he recalls. A dark-rimmed ear flips toward her before Romulus turns his head, the rest of him stopped in his tracks. Steel-grey tail snaps at his dappled flanks as he glares through the unrelenting sun at Titania.

Have you come here for the truth, then? Because if you’re here for anything else, you can get the hell out.

Romulus pauses, his hindquarters pivoting away from the Desert mare so that he faces her. He doubts she will appreciate any attitude he gives her, but the grullo stallion is likely in as much a mood for polite conversation as she is.

“Curiosity,” he grumbles, too stubborn to simply give her the answer she wants. “Also, you did threaten me.” His icy blue gaze stares past her, expression betraying that he is not so much taunting as he is tired and hot. As a rule, Romulus made an effort not to stick his nose in any business that was not explicitly his, and he was not particularly happy with himself for breaking that rule in the Commons and landing himself on Titania’s doorstep.

Well, it’s his own fault he is here, really.

Romulus heaves a sigh. “The truth, then. Let’s hear it,” he says, no trace of humor in his voice. Let’s get this over with.
Romulus
