Populations of small mammals here seem to vary considerably. We had a scourge of Red Squirrels last winter making nests in the boathouse. White-footed Mice found an entrance into the house in the past few months such that we were trapping full-size adults virtually every day. And chipmunks are constantly underfoot. We just set up a squirrel-proof feeder clothes-line and to our delight five flying squirrels foiled the system and are putting on a crowd-pleasing show.
Q. Why are they so attractive?
A. Round, not square head and very large eyes.
