stay with me & wait a while

Shiloh had found no shortage of things to occupy her time in Paradise, but she spent most of her time with Temblor. Not only was he her familiar anchor in this world of strange new things, but she adored asking him questions about himself and his home. She loved to see the things he spoke of for herself, but more than that, she loved to see him speaking of those things. Watching him struggle to find the words to explain what a tapir was (a dilemma she quite understood once she'd seen them herself) brought an exquisite joy that she could not deny. Unlike the discomfort that sometimes came when they asked each other of their histories, the land provided endless numbers of topics that came with neither guilt nor shame in their discussion.

The tobiano had even found time to find Temblor's other mare in her wanderings, although their conversation had most certainly not gone smoothly. The little bloodmarked mare was terrified and cagey, offering quiet, apprehensive half-answers to every question that Shy offered. It made her wonder what the woman's life was like before Temblor came, but she hadn't pressed. She didn't know if the mare would ever take her up on her offer of company, but she felt better for having offered it. Shy doubted that she would ever grow tired of the handsome stallion's company, but she did sometimes fear that he would eventually tire of her once he began to gather other mares.

His call jolted her from her idle daydreaming, and she lifted her head to answer back a little guiltily. The day's heat had woken her from her nap and driven her inland to seek refuge in a well-shaded pool. Shy was adapting quickly to Atlantis, but her body was still certain she might need to return to Tinuvel at any moment and had gifted her with a light winter coat that she most assuredly did not need. She had meant to return to him before he woke, but the cool water had lulled her into a contented daze and she had lost track of time.

"I'm back here!" She called out when she thought she could hear him approaching, and began to wade back to the shoreline so that she could meet him. "I'm sorry I didn't make it back in time. You just looked so peaceful sleeping that I didn't want to wake you." Which was the truth. It turned out that even giant, powerful stallions gained an aura of childlike serenity when they slept and she had been loathe to disturb him.

The water clung to the lower half of her body from where she'd been soaking in the cool liquid, and in freckled droplets over her body from flicks of her tail. It sheeted from her body, turning her pale lower legs pink as the skin beneath was exposed. She offered a soft smile as she moved to join him, settling at his side as she had for most of their time together. "How was your nap?"
