whatever you do; CLAIM

make certain your hands are clean ; The Commons are usually an exercise in futility for Rafe; somehow, he always manages to get interrupted by the Lagoon or the Peak. As if they’ve specifically picked him of all the territory leads to single out to foil. Perhaps his response to Rehoboam when he came seeking access to Rafe’s children was too harsh, but he has had no other interactions with the Lagoon. The worst is that the bachelor band doesn’t even seem to be stopping him and taking the mares for their own. They’re interfering simply to interfere, and he’s annoyed.

But the Badlands grow desolate, and he cannot forgo the duties of expanding his herd forever, so here he is again on the slowly-greening Crossing isle, haunting the Commons and hoping to find someone to take back with him. He’d put it off long enough, waiting for the clutches of Winter to depart (he still hates the snow). And now he is here, listlessly wandering and watching the clutches of horses. One mare appears over and over, as if she is traveling the same well-worn path and Rafe finally approaches her. She’s a lovely thing, white and black mottled coat, but she has a limp. It’s the only thing that has kept him from seeking her out sooner - the Badlands are unforgiving, and it would be a pity to take her back just to have her starve, or have her unable to thrive in the harsh environment.

Still, he has been surprised before, and at this point he’s watched her quietly long enough and no one else has approached that Rafe has decided this may be his opportunity. He steps from under the trees he’d been lingering at, and walks towards the mare. He stops a reasonable distance away and extends his muzzle in a polite greeting.

“Hello,” Rafe murmurs, looking over the mare now that he’s closer. She doesn’t seem to be openly injured, so he idly wonders where the limp comes from. Perhaps that will be his way in - offer her a safe place to rest and recover, take her back to the Badlands and get her to stay much like he had done with Viveka and then Vela. With any luck, this mare will be less...volatile than the other two.
