Dhaniya heaves another ragged breath - everything protests even the slightest move - the pain seeps into her weary bones and fatigued muscles. Her delicate nostrils quiver and she flicks her elegantly curved ears as an unfamiliar gravely nicker reaches her through the grey rain. Immediately she can feel the thrum of her heart quicken as panic creeps into her stomach and tightens her throat.
She desperately blinks back the prick of tears that threaten to spill from her honey eyes. "He is coming for me," she whispers to the stranger who now has begun to circle her. She eyes the muscles that ripple beneath his inky black coat and his curved halo ears atop his head. What could he this stranger want from her? Her heart thrums harder against her ribs as his whiskered muzzle gently brushes against her own. "I must return home..." she pleads with him.
But her words fall on deaf ears and he continues to circle her until he reaches her withers where he begins to shove his weight into her and encourages her to stand. She draws her legs beneath her - a wince contorts her lips and furrows her brows - she can feel the warmth of his body against hers as he keeps her from crumpling onto the cold sands. Shakily she stands, her sides heave and her nostrils flare with each breath.
"I..I.. can't go with you," she whispers into the narrow space between them as she lifts her honey eyes to meet his chilled gaze.
