It's obvious you don't have much time on the job, or haven't been paying attention. If you looked back, you'd see Local 2 considered this, but the potential give back wasn't worth the risk. As you may/may not know, any time Local 2 has a "front and center benefit" the city counters with something they'd like to have back. What could that be you might ask...take a look at some of the premium pay that you're receiving. Holiday on a Daley Day? Receiving EMT-B pay EMT-P pay while not functioning as one? How about "back loading" raises until the near the end of the contract? So you see, it has been discussed and the risk potential was too much for the membership to give up. So when you're pounding your fist on the kitchen table with all these grand ideas just remember many have visited this sacred ground before, but feel free to submit your contract suggestion...we'll be waiting.
