Finley had not expected to be disturbed, especially by such a sweet voice. As the mare cleared her throat, it stirred the dark brown stallion into wakefulness. But he didn’t open his eyes until she spoke, as if he didn’t truly believe she was speaking to him. Dark blue eyes reveal themselves, and he tilts his head to look up at her white face. At first, in his sleep dazed mind, Finley can almost imagine himself a colt again. The scent of Atlantis and the salty surf filling his nose, and his mother’s white face looking down at him. It only lasted a second before reality caught up to him.
“Do whatever you like.” he grunted out grumpily. “That’s what mares always do anyways.” It hadn’t occurred to Finley that she might be a Queen, or that she deserved any sort of respect in such a way. With Finley, it would’ve hardly mattered anyways. There was no use in pretending, except for now, as he looked away from her beautiful face. It made a weird stirring in the pit of his stomach and flutter in his chest. Fate was the last one to make him feel such a way, but she had not followed him into the surf that day, and he hadn’t found anyone else worth his time.
He didn’t want to think this mare would be worth his time.
Only, as Finley took a heavy sigh, the scent of Atlantis once again reached him. It wasn’t only his dream that had made him conjure up his birth place. His true home; not that frozen rock covered in snow. Tinuvel had been miserable in more way than one, and although he had visited other islands, he had no answer as to why he hadn’t returned to the Shore. “What part of Atlantis do you hail from?” he can’t help but ask, trying to fake mild curiosity despite how it continued to grow of this beautiful stranger.
