It’d taken her weeks to finally get up the courage to tell her dad she was leaving the Prairie.

Miriella had even considered sneaking off again, intending on being so far gone by the time they noticed, it wouldn’t cause any issues. Without Leliel hanging around any more they were bound to take forever to note her absence, after all. But every time she stood at the shoreline, even knowing her father and the rest of the herd were too far away to have spotted her, Miriella couldn’t bring herself to just leave.

So, finally, she found a rare moment where her father was off alone and unoccupied by anyone else, lifted her chin, marched forward and told him her intentions. I want to leave the Prairie. For good.

Just as she had told him, Miriella had no true thought as to what she was doing, or what her plans were for her future. All she knew was that the stagnant life in the Prairie was beginning to drive her crazy. With her closeness to Leliel somewhat frayed since their spat, with even Jasper having a life elsewhere, Miriella was starting to feel stuck. Where was her new romance? Where was her excitement? Why was she the one stuck and unnoticed among the quiet, rolling Prairie hills? It wasn’t the life she wanted whatsoever.

And Miriella, born of the islands, knew the one place among them where the turn of fate could be decided for you. The Commons.

She was sure her father would not want to know that was her intended location, so she’d only told him a partial truth. She didn’t know where she was going, because she hoped it was someone crossing her path in the Commons that would decide for her. She wasn’t even certain she would like them, but she thought of the large gray stallion in Atlantis and felt a shiver in her stomach. Fall was just around the corner and her instincts were pushing her to seek a mate outside her bloodline. Too, after a relatively calm life, the faint promise of potential danger if it was a brute who crossed her path made something akin to excitement prickle across her skin. Her gold and white flecked coat shivered as she lifted her cream tail higher off her haunches. Miriella marched boldly into the grazed-down clearing and snorted loudly, stomping a front hoof and demanding someone’s eyes or attention become hers and hers alone.
