"Okay, look," the golden mare murmured to herself as she clambered out of the water on the north-east shore of the Commons. "It's not an ideal situation, buuuuut I'm sure it'll be fine." She spoke to herself without any embarrassment, and then cast a suspicious glance skyward... just to make sure the small cloud wisps she'd been monitoring all evening hadn't magically turned into a snow storm. They hadn't, and so she turned instead to the magical open field of the Commons... and was instantly disappointed.

There was evidence of other horses: fresh tracks, areas grazed down to the dirt, roll marks and scuffle marks aplenty... but not a single soul to be seen. This was probably due, in part, to her decision to arrive late in the evening. Most sane horses had already found their new homes and scurried back into cover, where the brisk breeze and autumn chill could not reach them. Brigitta would like to claim that this decision was part of a greater plan; one that kept her as much out of harm's way as possible to appease her overbearing sire, but she wasn't great at lying, not even to herself. The truth was that it had simply taken all afternoon to get away from the close-knit herd she'd grown up in, and by the time she managed to fight her way through the ocean for the first time, night had already begun to fall.

"Um, hello?" She called out imperiously to the dark after shaking her coat dry. "Where is everyone?" The golden girl - glowing beneath the faint moonlight - stepped forward with her head high and eyes wide. "Did I go to the wrong place?"
