Greetings to all and it has taken me quite some time to wrap my head around the gravity of the week that's passed and the week ahead. The reminder that is the depth of the work that is performed on a daily basis by the members of Local 2. The strongest Honor will be present as the living, the bereaved and the men who lost their lives will be bound together. To all who worked along side them, who worked for them, who cared for them, the courage to continue is the foundation of what is "my" Local 2. Let us be brave as we share inevitable sorrow.
2023-Local 2 Union election. The hardest thing for me to witness is the oxymoron of what it means to be a Union member. There was quite a smear campaign lodged against a number of the candidates, filled with anger and righteousness combined…..yet, we all know….that’s how liars hide their lies. I will take this lesson, not as a loss, but as a gift. I would like to THANK YOU to all that did vote for me, and will share the most poignant message sent to me...."sorry that you lost, but more sorry for "us".....
Laced with fear and falsehoods, the greatest depletion comes at the voter’s expense. All the while this L-2 EB feigns Union loyalty. This would become the eminent travesty - the contagion of minds and hearts, allowing the greater good to be harmed on so many levels, none worse than the ability to “blame” and “deflect”, all the way up to and including the failure of the members to get their Union election ballots in the allotted time, or not get a ballot at all, and then be criticized for failing to return them to the PO Box on time.
To berate a membership that over 1,100 ballots were discounted due to a timeline that was not met by “them” is a classic example of why L-2 has an infamously secured that “the membership” is complacent and indifferent. The ultimate insult from a group of circus performers who are not all well trained - as they watch many of their Union members get terminated for a myriad of infractions. The very fact that the now un-seated Mayor was able to extract revenge on an Alderman [FF], at the cost of hundreds of Union members, exposed the limp that they walk with everyday.
To all the candidates who were/are not afraid to write, to speak, to defend cause(s) perceived unpopular, I am forever grateful. For union representation is paramount, contingent on the members who asked for your vote. There is no greater way to serve your membership than to contribute to help those in need. The men who currently “run” local -2 and their minions practice what is tolerant. These are the people who have respect for the employer at the cost of the employee. For when you realize toleration is a form of concession, you become upset with those who understand the right(s) of liberty and what it means to stand on a matter of principle, not to walk in fear.
It is of the utmost importance to stress that there is still hope! The election run-off has the ability to bring a level to the playing field. Because there is no better way to build others up if you don’t know what it’s like to be torn down. Do not confuse dissent with disloyalty. Vote for the candidates who know that there is a measure of what it means to understand who will protect you FROM Local 2! Turn off those jaybirds that rock in the tree-top all night long, bragging for the buzzard, and tell people that they’re wrong. With their strain of a meddler, who talk more than listen, becoming the species that are part of the injustice.
And with that, I will leave you with ALOHA….hello, goodbye, a quiet little laugh.....
