I agree with you about inflation, but I'd note that most developed nations have historically been MUCH more generous to their elderly and infirm. Mostly because FAMILIES cared for their oldsters, but our Post war work force would rather pay the GOVERNMENT to support them. That's clear enough.
FDR's policy was just getting us USED to the idea of using govt instead of the enderly's children for eldercare. Lots of the old folks understand this and know that the elderly and handicapped are a BURDEN, for THEY once were stuck with grandmas who lived to age 90.
When people bitch about the high costs of the aged, we just need to ask them what to do instead? PUt em in the spare bedroom and take care of them, let the government do it through taxes, or just take em out back and shoot em because they're a waste of food?
