Re(2): Wouldn't It Be Nice?

I always like it when people take up the cause that pisses Jim off for some explicable but insulting reason... my cause being that oldies programmers are just old top 40 jocks caught up in their own bad habits of playing the same worn out pop songs thinking they need an oft-repleted A list of abt 100 songs) and a B rotation of everything else that has the tempo the station's trying to sound like 24-7.

The problem with early 60s music is that we boomers are not pretty deep in our 70s and while our 18-34's are familiar with it, and can sing to it, especially the british invasion songs, its no longer possible to design a radio station for EARLY 60s we 75 year olds listened to in high school, with what our CHILDREN did in the 80s and 90s.

The franchise "Good Times Great Oldies" is giving the 'Greatest Hits" strategy a serious run for the over 40 set.

They play the Beach boys (the california Surfer/fast cars Wolfman era) and some older stuff, because we boomers didn't quit listening to the radio when we graduated in 1964-72.

I've talked about this before in here many times but the young-ens quip that us boomers listen to elevator music and dont' have any money to buy what their sales department is putting on the air.

Well that's BS but ya can't tell the young ens anything...a trait even Socrates complained about in ancient Greece.

We have the Good Times in an automated station here, and its caused a reaction in the local Classic Hits station, they're digging back earlier before we ALL run off.

Thats private enterprise, and typical of radio people who spend too much time listening to themselves and their competitors and not enough time coming out to see who their listeners actually are.
