I heard an MSNBC prime time anchor the other say, a girl in her 30s, highly educated, very successful and she used the word Often and pronouced the T.
I learned that stupid mistake in the 60s in Eighth grade English. That can be coached out of network anchors too.
Can't wait til this love affair with ABC new's verbless stylebook falls out of favor. Newspeople today always copying each other sound totally ignorant. But media people are dumbed down just like many elements of this society. Too bad, because if media was more demanding of their people, society wouldn't have so easily dumbed down.
Its a cultural thing here in the Colonies. The British haven't dumbed down their English, nearly as I can tell, at least not on the British television channels. I'm sure the Liverpudlians are butchering the language, but I never hear them on the telly! And I dont hear them reporting in other countries where British-taught English is their second language. The Koreans, Chinese, Middle easterners, even Russians, they all speak better English that we Americans do. Replies:
