The itch had set in again. To conquer. To claim. To battle. It had been too long since he'd met another horse in battle, set his strength against theirs to take what belonged to him. The summer with Khyber and Raja and Avrey had left him... not complacent, but subdued. The beast in him was somehow temporarily tamed by the presence of his own offspring, soothed by their laughter, captivated with their existence. He had been surprised to find that the desire to protect them had been almost as strong as the desire to create them, but now that they were older - fledglings in their own right - the desire to gather more had risen its ugly head again.

So Raegar had set off to the Crossing once more, planning to skim the Lagoon, and then the Commons, and then the Peak on his way to the Bay. There were other places he could stop to try and raid of course - a whole legion of unknown herds filled Atlantis and Luthien - but Raegar had a bone to pick with the curly-eared man that had stolen Vitani and her child from him. And while rage had filled him at the loss, now that he was seeking to avenge it... there was a sense of eagerness too. A joy in knowing he would be facing someone like him, someone that understood the way that fury and need burned like twin flames in his chest.

Fell was an enemy, yes, but he was Raegar's favorite kind of enemy.

Raegar had scented a possible target along the Lagoon's muddy shores, but she had stayed hidden in the murky depths and he had chosen not to pursue her... for now. Perhaps if he found no success against Fell he would return on his way home, but a part of him hoped not. Even if he found no purchase against the black's defenses, he knew he would at least come away satisfied in having met his match.

Lazily, Raegar jogged away from the empty Commons and angled northward, through the Falls. He would rest here for the night and then resume his journey in the morning, bright-eyed and eager. For now, he was content to drop his head toward the churning surface of the Falls and draw in the strange taste of the cool water, unflavored by the Badland's dust and mineral-rich soil.
