Sephiroth takes a step back and his ears slide back to tickle his crest as the mare reacts in surprise. The squeal and rear is so familiar to him, and for a moment he thinks of the inlet. He is back on Tinuvel with a snow storm surging around him, his own blood frozen to his dirtied coat, and a roar rumbling in his gut. His jaw tenses, lines appearing on his cheek. His expression is sad but it returns to kindness as he comes back into his own head. His ears flick forward, un apologetic smile on his pale lips.
"I'm sorry, I did not mean to frighten you."
Even as Damon stirred and pulled himself to his feet, Sephiroth's ears remained forward and inquisitive. The colt's own inquisitive sniff was met with the silver-haired stallion's soft smile.
"Protective." He paused, giving the tense colt a small nod.
"A valiant trait to have. How lucky to have such a dedicated guardian," he said turning his attention back to Penelope.
He stepped forward and lowered his own head, returning the gesture of exchanged breath.
"It is not too far of a swim," he gestures back to where he'd come from. He would eagerly lead them to the shores.
"I have a son, a bit younger than you," he says to Damon,
"Though I'm sure he will be eager to meet you." He smiled to himself, thinking of Masamune. There was only so much play time he could have with his young son when he was meant to be guarding the borders of the thicket.
Luthien may not have been in his blood the same way Tinuvel was, but Luthien was his. It was home. And he was dedicated to the small family he had begun to amass. And for them, he would do anything if it meant their happiness and survival. His previous loss of the thicket was behind him and he was moving forward despite the ghosts in his heart.
