SCREAMING IN THE DARK, I HOWL WHEN WE'RE APART

“I returned Kohelet,” he says and Úna narrows her eyes slightly. It was true, he did. And from what she had heard, her mother was unharmed. She'd heard Serenity and Mazikeen giggling about their excursion as they galloped through the snow upon their return. They too had not been harmed. Serenity would have told the whole world if even a single hair on her spoiled little face was out of place. Serenity was loud enough that Úna thought the whole world might just hear if she yelled enough. And yet she'd come back with tales, none of which ended with her coming to any harm. Úna had avoided the pair of them the best she could.

"You took her," she manages, her chest heaving with a shuddering breath. Her eyes are warm, a threat of tears, but she does not let them fall. They sparkle, glistening, but she does not let the tears come. Despite everything, her mother had taught her to be brave and whatever happened she would face it head on. It was foolish, but she was still young. She would learn from her mistakes, hopefully.

Her eyes widen as he takes a step forward and she feels herself shrink back despite herself. Instinctively she moves away from him and his teeth, only then does she realize she has crossed the stream and moved in the direction he had intended. She frowned, shooting him a glance. This was not quite going the way she had intended. She'd never been herded before, except when playing, but this was very different. "You've met my father, I can make more of a scene, I can promise you that." Though her words are still dripping venom, she is at least for the moment, quietly following the direction she is guided.

Despite the fact that she didn't want to go in the first place, plainly hearing he didn't even want her stung. She was a chess piece in a game she wasn't even playing. It was all to get at her father. She wasn't Úna, she was Fell's daughter. The same man she had avoided since that god forsaken day on the beach. She loved him, even now. But she'd hated him in that moment. She'd come here to get away from the bay and it's business, and yet here she was still trapped. She wondered if it was a curse.

She scoffed, "we agree on one thing, I guess." Her eyes widen as soon as she realizes what she's said and she bristles immediately again, snapping her tail against her tightened haunches. Just because she was mad at Fell too didn't mean she should agree with Rafe and she pointedly looks away again.
