The strange boy of the Harbor had left. The stallion who accompanied him, and all the rest of his herd left. The mare of the Shore, the ruler of Paradise, the tide spun woman of the Ridge; they all disappeared, one after the other. Atlantis was a beautiful place, full of color and life. Food aplenty, no one ever had to worry about starving or freezing to death. But just like her father, her mother, they all left. Nyxx truly did not know why. Others replaced them. Some needing a new start, some needing a second chance. The young looking to make a mark on the world and using the empty land as an opportunity. But in the end, it didn’t matter. Nyxx did not believe they would stay.

Cursed was the land she was born too. While the faces of the territories changed, she remained the same. Drifting like a ghost in the shadows, from territory to territory, as if she owned them all. Yet Nyxx was no different than the jungle cat that roamed atop the trees, barely coming to the ground. She was never found in the open, nor where there was fresh equine scent. Avoiding the main watering holes, for the harder and smaller ones to reach, secreted in the lush vegetation.

But one day, a dark cloud swept over the Shore, the most sacred to her heart. It was not a normal cloud, full of life-giving rain and the gentle roll of thunder. This one was full of vengeance and a festering darkness that corrupted even the brightest of things. The black filly did not want to be caught in its fierce grasp, struggling to breath in it’s down pouring rain, the ground so waterlogged that it turned into quicksand, clawing at her legs in hopes of sucking her soul into its clutches.

Nyxx fled.

In the cover of the darkness point in the night, the black filly did not wait for the storm to catch her. Like a panther, she slunk in the shadows; silent and aware, until she reached the upward sweep of the Ridge. Leaving the precious sands of the beach, Nyxx clambered over the rocks and hard packed earth until she stood at a precipice overlooking the wide expanse of sand that made up the Shore. Home. How long would the dark, menacing cloud hang over the land until it too had gone? With a heavy sigh, the filly closed her eyes momentarily, before she opened them again. Determined to make it through this new change, she turned and followed a familiar path deeper into an alcove of the Ridge.
