It is interesting and with an influence of their prior lists.
NC is strongly influenced by the Pinehurst Resort and noticeably missing are The Dormie Club and Anderson Creek in that area. Duke, UNC Finley, and Loonie Pool (NC State) are in their top college courses listing and an easy drive from Pinehurst.
Pinewild surprised me until I saw that they have help PGA and US Open qualifying rounds.
The courses in that area are very attractive for a revisit and less expensive trip.

Did you notice Osprey Point was listed at Sea Pines but it is at Kiawah?
