Orlando Jai Alai Posted on July 13, 2023 at 10:05:56 AM by Patrickm
If I read within the documents correctly regarding frontons request for dates approval with the state, Orlando Jai Alai has July 17-21 approved for 7 performances each day. Obviously this would mean a 2 man sham. Have some questons.
Can they actually do this behind locked doors without allowing fans in to witness? Also, the court itself was completely painted black and all stripes removed or painted over. Are there any rules and regs covering the condition of the court itself and safety of players, let alone actual judging and scoring of any kind. There also is no longer any tote facilities of any kind, which means no bets (no matter how ludicrous a win bet would be.)
A bigger question is why? There is no poker, slots or simulcasting at the facility to keep open and even if there was, decoupling has made jai alai moot. I can only speculate that ownership doesn't want to lose ability to book sports betting down the road - which could be very profitable. Plus it may give them legal standing to force the county to include sportsbook space in their overall redevelopment plan that was rejected by the county because of some dedicated gambling space within the redevelopment.
