Tampa should be ok, the storm will be well off shore as it passes by. They'll have surge but not near as bad as Cedar Key to the north. Dave's parents place at the Suwannee Fish Camp will be totally flooded, the water there could easily reach the ceilings fans. When Irma came through we went down there and the water line was about 5 inches above the door knobs.
No plans to leave as of now unless we get a direct hit. The center line has drifted west of us about 15 miles west but that puts us on the wrong side of the storm. Once the storm comes ashore it only has to travel 52 miles to get to me. As of the 5am update we'll be seeing gusts of over 100mph with sustained winds of 80-90mph. We'll be getting 6+ inches of rain tomorrow, so flooding and power loss is in the mix. We could be without power for a week or more.
With winds topping at over 100mph we're gonna lose some huge trees and that ain't good for trailers and vehicles... (and my squirrels!). What's worse is that storm's center looks awfully powerful to me, I wouldn't be surprised if it became a CAT4. If that happens we could see winds of 110-120mph.
Our biggest danger is embedded tornadoes starting tonight around 7pm with the first big rain bans. When Hurricane Irma came through here several years ago there was a lot of damage but it was tornadoes that did it, not the winds of the hurricane.
I got everything I need yesterday (beer, hot dogs and Cheetos). As long as I don't get a 70 foot pine tree in my lap I'll be fine. I came here with nothing, I can leave the same way...
