Florida got lucky, so did Lake Chitty IP: 108.212.84.252 Posted on August 30, 2023 at 10:08:01 PM by ChuckieBoy
Haven't got long here, using an emergency mobile internet truck off Hwy90, had to drive (for the 2nd time here) through a guys farm to get to the main highway. Our main road is blocked by down oak trees...
Ok, Florida got lucky because the hurricane came ashore in about the only spot on the western side of Florida that's not a beach community. Sure, there were people where it came ashore but not many. Mostly dirt roads & a few fishing villages, marshland, not much else.
Lake City got lucky because Idalia ran out of water. She was a CAT4 and trying to become a CAT5 but that occurred near shore. A hurricane goes through a "eye wall rebuild" when it strengthens, the center collapses and rebuilds stronger, takes about an hour or so. Well, this happened just as she came ashore and everything broke down, especially on the east and southeast side. That saved us from 120mpm winds, we got winds of 90-95 which sounds like a lot but it's a world of difference between the two.
Got to head back but everything is good, we got lucky... Replies:
