Boss's Decree

"For every brother you bring to our
midst, you may keep a trinket all to
yourself. She will not be sullied or traded, unless you deem otherwise. But should you bring a mare here without a new brother first, then I will consider her property of the Lagoon as a whole
and do with her as I see fit." - Garmr

Rules

• The Lagoon is where homeless stallions come to live as a brotherhood. Mares may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Soldiers keep mainly to fighting, Thieves keep mainly to raiding, and Associates may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Marauder or Boss for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Boss maintains order within the Lagoon and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Lagoon works on the Rules page.

• Upon election, the Boss can issue a rule for members to follow during their tenure. It is up to leadership to enforce.

Two days.

Miriella had stayed away from the Lagoon for two days, despite her trip to Luthien going so quickly it barely took one. When she’d roused herself in the Ruins it’d been mid-day; she hadn’t even slept the hours away, only laid on the ground and looked up at the clouds passing by. It had taken time to adjust to Elaine’s absence, and every time she realized she was listening for the girl or worrying after her, the guilt quickly festered into anger. Leaving the girl to Leliel’s watchful, loving gaze was meant to absolve her of her responsibility and therefore take away the shame she felt at her poor maternal skills. Yet, as the days crept by, Miriella only found that she felt worse.

The unfairness of it all settled like a knot in her stomach. Her already sour disposition was further spoiled, and she did everything she could to keep to her own company, even going as far to bolt when anyone tried coming near. She’d crashed through pits of mud and gotten herself stuck into a panic, leaving the black, thick muck dried up her long legs and over her chest. It was unlike her to look so unkempt, even as a Lagoon resident where cleanliness wasn’t so easily achieved. Miriella had always had a little bit of vanity, and she’d prided herself on keeping rather clean the first year she’d lived here.

The hushed sounds of another horse moving slowly drew her attention away from the bit of stringy grasses she’d uncovered under a slushy mixture of mud and snow by stabbing her narrow hoof repeatedly into it. Miriella blinked, shocked as she recognized the mare, despite them both looking far different than they had quite some years ago. She knew the mare was Leliel’s older sister; she remembered feeling jealous that Leliel not only had her mother, but an older sister, too. Still, Miriella couldn’t remember her name.

Briefly she warred with the initial reaction to pin her ears and veer away, ready to bolt if she was pursued. The entire time she had been in the Lagoon she had done everything she could to keep her former life and former home from finding her and now, here it was… here it clearly had been for some time. Yet something about the way the red mare looked, though, stalled her and left Miriella looking somewhat curiously at her rather than making an indication to leave.

She was uncertain though of what to say. All she could manage was a somewhat bewildered, “You aren’t supposed to be here,” that lacked any bite her tone normally carried.
