Re(1): Scripps dumping news, it’s coming Kansas City

Sounds like what I predicted long ago. Not looking for credit other than common sense. Most markets don't support the news that stations are willing to pay staff to research. Most is filler between commercials. Internet and satellite has changed the need for long lines affiliates TV across the land.

It was a matter of time that the delivery technology would end the need for local affiliates. Theyve been FCC licenses to steal when there were just 3-4 TV providers but cable and the Internet has cut deeply into their audiences. The value of those licensed channels has diminished severely because 'stations' can't deliver the audience each once did. All those subchannels they developed just made matters worse because quality programming isn't cheap. HOw many newscasts can 3-4 TV stations make money from in any given market?

I suggest news is now so watered down, viewers are losing interest in everything but weather forecasts!

Bad time to plan a 40 year career in affiliate news, IMHO.
