The city and the department have achieved their long sought goal of having racial, ethnic, and sexual minorities at the helm. Some would say that any 213 has nothing to do with field operations. Not true. The boss sets both the standard and the tone. Every CFD member that has fallen down a light or ventilation shaft, has either been walking without sounding ahead or unaware of the surroundings. That’s the standard and tone I meant. Basics matter, complacency kills. Always has, always will.
