Solomon had truly not expected so many of his herd to accompany him to Salem. It had been his fervent wish that the majority of them would find respite and protection among the Inlet and Arch herds while he recovered his strength and worked to regain the Cove, but as happened so frequently during his tenure... nothing went as planned. Half of his herd returned with him to Salem, despite knowing it would put them all at great risk come winter, and he was half out of his mind with worry when he thought of the future.
He had failed all of them in losing the Cove, in losing the monarchy, and now all he could do was pick up the scattered pieces of what he had hoped to leave to his sons as a legacy.
Movement on the horizon drew his emerald eye, and to his surprise, he picked out the loudly painted form of his son Nicodemus. He had been spending most of his time in the Inlet, which was, perhaps, unsurprising after Solomon had finally split from Ysabel. Both of his children had been distant from him, which was as much his fault as anyone else's. Parvati's unique living arrangements had never sat well with him, but he had been content to let her rule the Inlet without commentary or oversight because she was a capable ruler. Perhaps even his equal these days, in combat at least. When Ysa had left for parts unknown, Solomon had not been surprised to learn that Nico had gone to his sister. It was an arrangement that kept them close, but not so close (hopefully) that they would feel his presence looming over them.
"Nicodemus," he greeted, dark-tipped ears flipping forward.
"What brings you from the Inlet? Is everything okay?"
